From my friend White Lebed -- last minute notice of a fun event. Check it out!
What: Glyph Graves: Incomplete Recollections
When: Monday, March 29th - 3pm SLT (art walk with Glyph Graves)
Where: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kolor/118/133/51
Iono Allen's wonderful machinima of the exhibit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoBHxLyzcwE
Summary: Glyph Graves is closing his personal show covering (incompletely) 3 years in SL! The last day is Sunday, March 4th!
About the art show:
It is hard to find those who are even remotely interested in SL arts and are not familiar with Glyph's art. He produced some of the most photographed, filmed, collected, not to mention immitated artworks.
He is known as one of the most productive artists, constantly enventing new scripts, perfecting textures, exploring new ideas and concepts. However, like many great artists, he is so passionate about moving ahead and creating new art, he often neglects showing his old works. It was my long-term dream to dig deep into Glyph's inventory and bring back some of his old masterpieces, present them side by side in one place -creating sort of a visual art timeline.
How to experience:
- Please, turn off the streaming music and turn on the SL sounds as a few pieces depend on SL generated sound/music.The sound is in almost all cases generated note by note and mapped either from wind or from interaction of an avatar or mobile object.
About the tour:
The tour will start here at 3pm
If you can't come to the artist tour, here is the suggested self-guided tour.
1. Once upon a time, and not that long - only 3 years ago, a fresh egg was rezzed in one of SL sandboxes - this one
Can you think of a more humble traditional beginning? Actually if you look closely, you will see that even back than he was pushing for something unusual
2. Glyph's 1st Exhibition
You probably missed it when it happened, didn't you? And unless you know the trick you can easily miss it again. But it really worth visiting!
Come here and click on a cool looking black/green prim to tp up there. After you are done, you can just fly out - the walls are phantom. Don't look for a tp downstairs, may the next time...
3. The Garden
Located right under the 2. or here. This section contains artworks which were presented during the famous Garden of NPIRL event in 2008 (curated by Bettina Tizzy).
4. Inventory Airing
Right next to the Garden you will find half sim size platform full of various sculptures and intallations created in 2008. Some of those objects are well known popular sculptures which have been successfully displayed all over SL, others are little known, some have never been displayed.
Now, you might wonder, why some of those cool little sculptures have been kept a secret? No good reason really, other than the fact that Glyph is as good at making art as he is bad at keeping up with organizing his evergrowing sizable inventory. And yes, he plans to do it (but, first he needs to finish this new exciting thing he is working on.. hehe)
Anyway, this portion of the exhibition looks like a typical messy art work room (or as Glyph puts it - an eclectic selection) full of interesting things to discover. Some of the rare and unique objects are for sale. If you like something, grab it - you might never see it again.
5. Russian corner
Why Russian? because the artworks you will see here made their debute during Glyph's self-curated Russian Archipelago exhibition back in 2008. During this show photographers and film makers discovered how camera-friendly Glyph's art is. You probably have seen pictures and machinimas showing these objects. However, the originals have stayed in Glyph's inventory ever since that summer - now it is your chance to see how they really look like.
6. BIW Award winning installation URban Renewal
For the best experience - start right here and WALK through it, don't cam or fly! If you do it right you will see why!
This installation is unique in many ways.
I will just point out one very important detail - this installation will not work if you visit it during a high lag perios if too many avatars are around. However, you need to bring a few friends with you since the installation reacts on presence avatars depending on number of the guests. If that sounds a bit confusing, it supposed to be - and wait till you actually experience the room..
Here is the notecard from Glyph with more details (you might want to visit the room first, before you read it)
7. Art Simularca
Another group of well known popular sculptures which were displayed in Tayzia Abattoir NMC Gallery.
8. Memories of Summer
The large round room in the middle. This is the complete display which was made for the Soleil show in July 09 (curated by White Lebed). An impression of Australian coastal forest at dusk.
The credits
Kolor Fall - the sims owner and one of the most patient people in SL
White Lebed - the show curator (meaning the one who was begging, nagging, bargaining, threatening Glyph into finishing this installation)
Iono Allen - the machinima maker
